WONDER

        Winter's icy breath numbs fingers,
        Hardened frost in furrow lingers.
Dartmoor broods as chill winds blow
Through dips and gullies patched with snow.
Gaunt, ghostly limbsof wind rocked trees,
        Silhouettes on hill top frieze
        Defy the elements.
Then through the gloom emerges, cold and white,
Leviathan of space to cheer our blinkered sight -
The pulse of life, serene, untouched by man,
Unquestioning monarch of the solar plan,
        Declares its presence

Is it possible that such a tiny sphere,
Rolling like a coin in space
Has power and strength to warm and cheer
And fire the blood of all life here
        In cosmic's earthly place?
That power can change the world of grey
To sun-kissed buds, young lambs at play -
Bursts of hope with each new day
        Continuing life in nature's race
