Silently

Silently, they stand strong
Fighting for peace
Knowing war is wrong
Hoping it will soon cease.

Silently, watching as their own fall
Weeping, mourning
Forlornly wishing above all
It was only a tactical warning.

Silently, praying
"Please help us God"
Their last wishes, conveying
As numbers fall from their squad.

Silently, searching their soul
Wondering how much longer
Before they lose control
Praying to get stronger.

Silently, thanking God it has finally ended
Hoping, that no more blood be shed
Merely satisfied they had defended
Before warfare could spread.

Silently, returning to their land
Some whole, some not so victorious
Gratified they had taken a stand
But, wishing death not be so notorious.

Silently, bowing their heads in prayer
Praying over the less fortunate's grave
Lost in despair
Feeling the least bit brave.

Silently, returning to their rightful place
Home, embracing life and normality
Wishing war would disappear without a trace
But, can this be a reality?
