Our Germansweek Flowers

Where do I start? I walk the lanes with Jack and always see flowers, some defy the seasons and it is not unusual to see primroses through the winter giving a cheerful spring feeling. I will start now, May 2003.The links will be bi-monthly (if I can keep it going). If you have any local flower photos I would like to include them. Please contact me. Come to that any local wildlife photos to add to the wildlife section of the Germansweek page. These buttercups start the ball rolling with their sunny, bright yellow, common they are but could we ignore them?

This page is yet to be finalised, sorry for the delay. I am having a job to keep up with text writing so for the time being simply hover the cursor over the individual pictures. I compress the definitions to speed up the download to you and this does affect definition. It is a choice I have to make.Colin.

Dandelion Flowers---- Dandelion Seeds

I think some of the commonest flowers are these lovliest, people overlook them. Do not be a flower snob. Have a close peep at a dandelion flower, the stucture, colour and the odd shape of each petal. The little parachute seeds whose principles were employed by them long before we pinched the idea. Leonado de V. was not the first but he did learn from watching and studying, as we all can.

Cuckoo Flower Cowparsley

You may have gathered I am no expert, just someone who likes to look at things. In the event feel free to tell me if I have misidentified any plant, it may well occur. Here we have a Cuckoo flower, it is similar to some others but often the leaves give a clue to identification.
The Cowparsley, here on the right, is in its early stages. As I type this it has spread a lot since I took this photo in the early part of May.

Herb Robert---- Herb Bennet

On the left we have Herbrobert. It seems to be everywhere at this moment,(late May). I guess if you had this around the garden you would curse it as a weed of some magnitude.
On the right we have Herb Bennet. A lovely flower taken close up. I like close ups and took a good one last year of a Foxglove, way down inside the flower. I will try to repeat it for you again this time.

----

This year seemed to me to be a bumper year for the beautiful Gorse, or Furse as it can be called. Here is a bunch quite close up but I believe it looks superb when in banks by the fields or on the open moors. On the right is a view of this bush as it was in one of Bovey farms' fields. Yes that is sun you see, early May!!
