The Magic Box

I will put in the box
The crash against the Cornish cliffs on a summer night,
Granite from the seabed of a coastal town,
The tip of a blue wave with a Cornish roar.

I will put in the box
A crystal with a piece of string,
A sip of the bluest water from the seaside
From a coastal route.

I will put in the box
Three golden wishes spoken in Cornish,
The scream of a Cornish girl,
And the roar of a loud wave.

I will put in the box
A spring season and a happy sun,
A dog in the water,
And a boat on a rough night.

My box is fashioned by a Cornish fisherman from gold and steel,
With stars on the lid and secrets in the corners,
Its hinges are made of seashells.

I shall surf in my box
On the great high-rolling of the wild sea,
Then wash ashore on a yellow beach,
The colour of the sun.
